Chitwan beat Pokhara by 9 wickets in the final



Kathmandu. Chitwan Tigers entered the final of Bajaj Pulsar Everest Premier League (EPL) 2021 by defeating Pokhara Rhinos by 9 wickets. Spinners Sagar Dhakal, Shahab Alam and Mohammad Shahzad performed brilliantly to give Chitwan a comfortable win. Shahab and Sagar took 4 wickets each while Shahzad scored an unbeaten run.

Chitwan completed the target of 67 runs set by Pokhara in the first qualifier on Wednesday for the loss of one wicket in 7.5 overs.

Opener Mohammad Shahzad scored 48 runs for Chitwan. When 4 runs were needed for victory, Shahzad Nandan Yadav’s ball was cut and bowled to play a big shot. He hit 7 fours and 2 sixes in 26 balls.

Hasim Ansari, who played his first game, scored 13 not out in 17 balls with the help of one four and one six. Karim Jannam added 4 not out. He hit the winning boundary while playing a ball. Nandan Yadav of Pokhara took 1 wicket.

Despite losing in the first qualifier, Pokhara will have another chance to reach the final. Pokhara will play the second qualifier on Thursday against the winner of today’s Eliminator match between Bhairahwa Gladiators and Kathmandu Kings XI.

Earlier, after Sagar and Shahab took 4-4 wickets, Pokhara lost the toss and batted first. Pokhara was all out for 66 runs in 15 overs.

Chitwan spinner destroys Pokhara innings

Pokhara scored 41 runs and lost only one wicket. But after Chitwan’s spinner shone, Pokhara’s innings collapsed and he added 19 runs for the loss of the remaining 9 wickets.

Apart from Pokhara openers Richard Levy (19), Sunil Dhamala (18) and Susan Bhari (12), other players could not score double digits.

Sahan Archige 3, Captain Binod Bhandari for zero, Asela Gunaratne 1, Vivek Yadav 2, Lokesh Bam 5, Vikram Sob 3 and Nandan Yadav were out for zero. Kishor Mahto remained unbeaten on one run.

Shahab Alam of Chitwan took 4 wickets for 10 runs in 4 overs while Sagar Dhakal took 4 wickets for 14 runs in 4 overs. Captain Sompal Kami took 1 wicket for 24 runs in 3 overs and Karim Jannat took 1 wicket for 9 runs in 2 overs.

Another chance for Pokhara

Despite losing in the first qualifier, Pokhara will have another chance to reach the final. Pokhara will play the second qualifier on Thursday against the winner of today’s Eliminator match between Bhairahwa Gladiators and Kathmandu Kings XI.

In the league stage, Chitwan was first with 8 points out of 5 winning 4 games and Pokhara was second with 7 points out of 5. The top-ranked Chitwan in the league retained their position and easily won the qualifiers.

Today the match is being played between Bhairahawa and Kathmandu under Eliminator.
