Kathmandu. Nepal has suffered its first defeat in the ongoing SAAF Championship 2021 in Maldives. Nepal suffered a 1-0 loss to India in their third match on Sunday.
Earlier, Nepal had won two consecutive matches. India had drawn two games in a row.
Captain Sunil Chhetri scored for India in the 82nd minute of the match played at the National Stadium in Male. Sunil Chhetri and Manbir Singh also missed a good scoring opportunity in the first half.
After the defeat of Nepal, the equation of reaching the final has become exciting with the participation of five countries. Now both the teams reaching the final will be decided on the last match day.
Nepal and Maldives have the same 6 points. India is at 3rd position with 5 points. Bangladesh are fourth with 4 points from 3 matches. Sri Lanka, having played all four matches, are out on one point. Now Nepal will play Bangladesh and India will play Maldives on Wednesday.
Now Nepal will have to play at least a draw against Bangladesh to reach the final.
