4 October, Kathmandu. Allan Maharjan and Ivana Thapa of Adarsh Vidya Mandir (AVM) won the gold medal in the KKM/NRT Open Table Tennis Tournament on Tuesday. Allen and Ivana were first in female cadet singles.
Allen defeated Ujjwal Manandhar of Bhanubhakta Memorial School 11-5, 11-7 and 11-7 in the student final of the tournament jointly organized by Kathmandu Sports Board (KKM)/ New Road Team (NRT). Shankar Pahari of KKM/NRT and Atheet Gurung of AVM finished third.
Ivana defeated Narmada Khaitu of KKM/NRT 11-8, 11-6 and 11-3 in the girls’ gold match at the National Table Tennis Training Center in Lanchaur. Arsana Maharjan and Saira Shakya of AVM came third.
Chaturanandraj Vaidya, President of All Nepal Table Tennis Association inaugurated the tournament during an event. There are a total of 11 events including 6 in Men’s/Female, Cadet and Junior Student Singles and 5 in Experienced Singles.
Cash prizes are kept in all competitions except Vetran’s 5. In Men’s/Women’s Singles, the first runner-up will get a cash prize of ₹50,000, the second runner-up ₹25,000 and the third runner-up will get a cash prize of ₹10,000/10,000.
The top three position winners in Senior Men’s/Women’s Singles (U-19) and Cadet Men’s/Women’s Singles (U-15) will receive cash prizes of ₹10,000, ₹5,000 and ₹2,500/2,500, respectively. The competition will run till Friday.
