Investigate the Chaurajhari incident through a special mechanism: Human rights activists


14 June, Kathmandu. Human rights activists have called for a special high-level mechanism to investigate Rukum’s murder last Saturday.

Various 33 human rights organizations and individuals issued a statement on Wednesday expressing concern over the incident.

The call for the formation of a high-level, credible special mechanism to deal with barbaric attacks, murders, violence and atrocities based on caste discrimination and untouchability. They have also sought to ensure an independent, impartial and effective investigation and prosecution of the culprits as per prevailing criminal law.

Stating that heinous violence is taking place against the Dalit community in both the hills and the Terai, he has attracted the government’s attention to take initiative to control it.

Charan Prasad, Kapil Shrestha, Mandira Sharma, Dinesh Tripathi, Omprakash Aryal, Suman Adhikari, Janak Bahadur Rawat, Baburam Giri, Govind Sharma ‘Bandi’, Vijay Raj Gautam, Indra Prasad Aryal, Rajan Kunkel, Bhakta Vishwas Bhokta, Bhakta Vishwakarma.

On 25 June, Nawaz Vishwakarma, Tikaram Sunar, Ganesh Budha and Lokendra Sunar of Jajarkot were killed at Chaurajhari in West Rukam. Two of those who accompanied him are still missing.
