Lukaku will not be able to play two matches of the World Cup

5 November, Kathmandu. Belgium’s star forward Romelu Lukaku will miss the first two matches of the FIFA World Cup in Qatar. According to the news agency AFP, Lukaku will not be able to play in the matches against Canada and Morocco in Group F.

Lukaku missed Belgium’s first training session as he recovers from a hamstring injury. Lukaku is the top scorer for Belgium with 68 goals in 102 games.

Despite not being fully fit, coach Roberto Martinez included Lukaku in the squad for the World Cup. The last 18 months have been difficult for the 29-year-old Lukaku. After not performing well at Premier League club Chelsea, he returned to Inter Milan on loan.

He has made only two appearances for Inter since his first injury in August. Lukaku tried to make a comeback in the Champions League last month against Victoria Plesson. But after a few days he got injured again.

Belgium will make their World Cup debut on Wednesday against Cadena. Belgium will play Morocco before taking on 2018 World Cup runners-up Croatia.

Martinez will have to decide who will replace Lukaku. Prior to the World Cup, Michy Batshuayi was first choice in a 2–1 loss against Egypt. Batsui was later replaced by Lois Openda.
