Namibia’s historic win in T20 World Cup



Kathmandu. Namibia registered a historic victory in the ICC T20 World Cup on Wednesday after David Wise’s scintillating batting and half-century.

In Group A, Namibia beat Netherlands by 6 wickets in the first round. This is Namibia’s first win in the T20 World Cup.

Wise, who had previously played T20 for South Africa, scored an unbeaten 66 as Namibia chased down their 165-run target for the loss of four wickets with six balls to spare. He hit 4 fours and 5 sixes in 40 balls. JJ Smith remained unbeaten on 14 runs. Captain Gerard Erasmus added 32 runs.

Fred Klaasen, Colin Ackermann, Tim van der Guten and Netherlands captain Peter Seeler took a wicket each.

Earlier, after losing the toss at the Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi, the Netherlands scored 164 for the loss of four wickets with the help of a half-century from Max O’Dodd. O’Dodd played 56 balls and scored 70 runs with the help of 6 fours and 1 six. Colin Ackerman scored 35 runs while wicketkeeper Scott Edward added 11 not out off 11 balls. Namibia’s Jane Frylink took two wickets and David Wise took one.

After the first win, Namibia have two points from two matches. Namibia lost the first match to Sri Lanka. This is the second consecutive defeat for the Netherlands. The Netherlands lost to Ireland in the first match.
