7 Manseer, Kathmandu. Nepal defeated Bhutan by 8 wickets in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Asia Qualifier played in the UAE on Tuesday.
This is Nepal’s first win in the competition. Home team UAE defeated Hong Kong on Tuesday. With this result, Nepal is likely to emerge as the group winner and advance to the global qualifiers.
UAE, having won two consecutive matches, are on top with 4 points. Nepal and Hong Kong have added two points after one loss and one win. Nepal lost the first match to Hong Kong.
Nepal now has to play Kuwait, Malaysia and UAE in the selection of six countries. Nepal will play its third match against Kuwait on Thursday.
Sita’s all-round performance
Sita Rana Magar made significant contributions both in bowling and batting as Nepal defeated Bhutan easily.
Batting first after winning the toss at the ICC Academy Ground in Dubai, Bhutan could manage only 61 runs in 20 overs for the loss of 6 wickets. Nepal achieved the target of 62 runs in 8.3 overs for the loss of 2 wickets. Opener Indu Burma remained unbeaten for Nepal and scored the highest 18 runs. Opener Sita played 13 balls and contributed 17 runs with the help of 2 fours.
Batting at number three, skipper Rubina Chhetri added 10 runs while Kavita Joshi scored an unbeaten eight off two balls with two fours. Tashi Cheki of Bhutan took one wicket.
Opting to bat first Bhutan started well but Nepal’s Sita took 3 wickets. Bhutan lost the first wicket after scoring 30 runs in 7 overs. But then they added 31 runs and lost the remaining 9 wickets.
Nepal’s Sita took 3 wickets for 10 runs in 4 overs. Karuna Bhandari took 1 wicket with 1 maiden in 4 overs and spent only 6 runs. Two Bhutanese players were run out.
For Bhutan, Nawang Choden and Sonam Paldo added 13 and 11 runs respectively.
