NIF Film Festival to be held in four halls of QFX from Chait 2


Kathmandu. The 6th Nepal International Film Festival (NIF) will be held in Kathmandu from Chait 2 to 6. Information about the lineup, jury etc. of the films to be shown in the festival was given in the announcement program organized on Wednesday.

The festival has received over 500 film applications from 55 countries and out of them 95 films from 35 countries have been selected. 14 awards will be distributed in seven categories to national and international short films, documentaries and animated films.

From this time on the competition films of NIF will be screened in the hall under QFX. The competing films will be screened at QFX’s Chhaya Kendra, Civil Mall, Labim Mall in Lalitpur and Hall in Bhaktapur.

At the announcement event, Film Development Board Chairman Bhuvan KC wished the continuation of the festival aimed at cultural exchange across the world. Actor-director Neer Shah said that even though over 365 films are screened every year, very few are memorable.

‘From this year NIF has been successful in combining the two pillars. One is the tie-up with QFX and the other is friendship with Maya Animation Academy.” Shah said, “The government should support such a program. The board should take initiative for this.

Xiao Chang, director of the Chinese Cultural Center, said it takes hard work to organize a festival like NIF. Navraj KC, advisor to the mayor of New York City, USA, said that they are ready to cooperate with Nepali films. He said that the role of NIF is important in the development of Nepali films.
