Kathmandu, 18 October

Non-resident Nepali Federation (nRNA), the umbrella organization of non-resident Nepalis living across the world, has decided to hold elections to elect the new executive committee by November 30 this year.

Last week, the general conference, which will also hold elections scheduled for October 23-25, was postponed indefinitely due to foreign ministry interference and internal disputes within the organisation.

But, now, a virtual meeting of the organization’s executive committee meeting decided to complete the election by November 30, while also extending the tenure of the existing committee by six months, according to NRNA vice-president Badri Casey.

The conference, to be held in Kathmandu later this week, was expected to elect a new leadership for the organisation. However, the Ministry of External Affairs recently directed the NRNA to halt the election process after it received complaints of irregularities in the selection of delegates to the convention.
