Police formed women’s cricket team under the captaincy of Rubina Chhetri

6 October, Kathmandu. Nepal Police has formed a women’s team for the first time under the leadership of Nepalese national team captain Rubina Chhetri. Coach Manoj Katuwal told that the police has formed a women’s team to participate in the 9th National Games.

Coach Katuwal said that the police will appoint such players below 23 years of age who will be eligible for employment and players above 23 years of age will be hired on contract basis. So far 13 players have been signed in the police team.

These include captain Rubina Chhetri, wicket-keeper batsman Kajal Shrestha, Apsari Vegum, Sabnam Rai, Sangeeta Rai, Hiranmai Rai, Kavita Joshi, Revathi Dhami, Ishwari Bista, Lakshmi Saud, Kavita Kunwar, Yakkan Khadka and Manisha Upadhyay.

Along with this, coach Katuwal said that the police will include three more players Asmina Akhre, Bindu Rawal and Dolly Bhatt in the team from next year. “We had said that this year Asmina, Bindu and Dolly will be signed, but this year they will play for the province, so the matter has been postponed till next year,” he said.

Coach Katuwal said that although the process of formation of women’s cricket team is going on since 2 years ago, but from this time the team is going to be announced. “This time we have been able to create a group as part of a team building process to encourage women cricket players to join the game,” she said.

With this, the Nepal Police women’s team has become the second departmental team in women’s cricket. APF has formed a women’s team to participate in the competition over a decade ago.
