20 December, Kathmandu. National team cricketers Sharad Bheshawkar and Arif Sheikh have said that former captain Sandeep Lamichhane, who is serving a sentence for rape, should get justice.
He said in a Facebook post this morning that justice should be done to Sandeep.
Sandeep is in pre-trial custody on charges of raping a minor. The District Court of Kathmandu had ordered him to be sent to jail on November 18. According to that order, he has been kept in the Central Jail.
He has filed an appeal in the Patan High Court seeking quashing of the district court’s order. Earlier on January 14, his application was fixed for payment and not sent for consideration.
On August 21, a minor lodged a complaint against Sandeep with the Gaushala police. Lamichhane, who was in Jamaica at that time to play in the Caribbean League, returned to Nepal on October 20. He was taken into custody by the police from Tribhuvan International Airport the same day.
