Kathmandu, 22 September

Supreme court has filed a writ petition seeking that the posts of Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives be declared void now as the term of the House has already expired.

Petitioners Kishore Poudel and Anupam Bhattarai have argued that Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota and Deputy Speaker Pushpa Bhusal have not yet resigned despite the expiry of the term of the House, giving them an opportunity to misuse state assets.

They have also demanded that the court issue an interim order restraining the Speaker and the Vice-Chairman from accessing the benefits accruing from the posts.

The court says that the petition will be heard on Friday.
