Kathmandu. Based on the earnings figures, the Hindi-speaking film industry in Bollywood is currently dominated by the South Indian film industry.
So far this year, two South films KGF Chapter 2 and RRR have earned more than Rs 1,000 crore. Karthik Aryan’s ‘Bhulbhulaiya 2’ had kept Bollywood’s nose to some extent.
The films of Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgan, who are considered to be box office earners, were also unsuccessful. On the other hand, ‘The Kashmir Files’ made magical profits. This trend is considered an exception. Earlier, ‘Jai Santoshi Maa’ also made tremendous money in Bollywood.
As of 2019, Bollywood’s earnings were Rs 5,200 crore. While the earnings of the South Indian film was four thousand crores. After the Corona period, films like Pushpa, Master, RRR from South India were shown. At the same time, none of the Bollywood films could do wonders at the box office.
After Corona, South Indian film revenue reached Rs 2,400 crore in 2021. Bollywood’s earnings have come down to Rs 800 crore. According to Oremex, the box office size of Telugu films grew by 29 percent in the first three months of 2022. Whereas Bollywood’s share is only 27 percent.
About 1,900 to 2,000 films are produced in India every year in 26 languages. In which 500 movies are in Hindi language. In second place is the Kannada film industry. Where around 300 to 350 films are made. 280 films are made in Telugu. Movies are produced less in Telugu than in Hindi, but the revenue is higher than in Hindi.
Tamil and Telugu films contribute 40 percent of India’s entertainment tax. It is said that ‘Bahubali 2’ was seen by 100 million people in India. Next is ‘RRR’ which is said to have been watched by 70 million people. The Bollywood film ‘3 Idiots’ is said to have been watched by 35 million people.
